Where to Find the Best Countryside Retreats in Yorkshire
By Tom Nonmacher
Hello fellow travellers, I'm here to share with you some of my favourite countryside retreats in the beautiful county of Yorkshire. The rugged landscapes, historic villages, and serene valleys of Yorkshire offer the perfect backdrop for a tranquil getaway, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Yorkshire, often referred to as 'God's Own County', is a paradise for anyone seeking peace, quiet, and the simple pleasures of nature.
Firstly, let me talk about the enchanting Swinton Park Hotel in Masham. Set within a 20,000-acre estate, this luxury castle hotel offers a unique blend of history, luxury, and scenic beauty. It's a birdwatcher’s paradise and a walker’s delight, too, with miles of trails winding through the estate. For those seeking a touch of luxury in the countryside, this is your perfect hideaway.
If you desire a more rugged experience, consider the Ox Pasture Hall Hotel in Scarborough. This former country house is now a luxurious hotel, located in seventeen acres of enchanting gardens and grounds in the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park. The hotel offers a range of accommodation options, including luxury suites and cottages, making it a perfect choice for couples, families, and solo travellers.
Another gem in Yorkshire is the Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa in Bolton Abbey. This picturesque, family-owned hotel offers warm hospitality, a Michelin-starred restaurant, and a multi-award-winning spa. Have a riverside picnic, take a scenic walk, or simply relax in the elegant rooms. It's a place where you can indulge and enjoy the finer things in life without breaking the bank.
For those who like to be active during their stay, check out the Kilnsey Park Estate in the Yorkshire Dales. Here you can try your hand at trout fishing, take a nature walk, or explore the adventure trail. The estate also offers cosy log cabins and a cafe serving delicious, locally-sourced food. It is a perfect destination for families looking for an activity-filled holiday in the countryside.
Finally, for a truly unique experience, I would recommend a stay at the Crab Manor Hotel near Thirsk. Each room in this quirky hotel is themed after a famous vineyard around the world. The grounds are beautiful, and the on-site restaurant, the Crab and Lobster, is one of the best seafood restaurants in Yorkshire. It's a charming, one-of-a-kind retreat that won't disappoint.
Yorkshire is a diverse and beautiful county, brimming with hidden gems and unique experiences. These are just a few of the amazing countryside retreats that you can find in Yorkshire. So why not treat yourself to a break in 'God's Own County'? You won't regret it!
